# G2 · Dr. Dev Patel — round 3

Same guy, same hour: 11pm, phone, brightness down, inbox finally quiet. Since round 2 I've been asking two things of every page: tell me what I'd buy before my thumb gets tired, and never make me feel like the resident who corrected my prompt is watching. One new worry this round: the safety promise got demoted from its own section to small print — I'm the persona who reads that section twice, so I checked each page for whether "private, judgment-free" still finds me on a skim.

## Variant A — Field Notes

- Scores: First impression 9 · Trust 9 · Clarity 9 · Resonance 9 · Craft 8 · Action 8 · **Total 52/60**
- Likes:
  - The syllabus card landed in the hero — the exact thing I praised Indigo Oath for in round 2, now in Field Notes' warm register: a paper sheet with a second page stacked beneath it (`.syllabus::before`, translated 7px/8px and rotated), 001 → 106 on ruled rows, and "Private · 1:1 · non-clinical — no patient data, ever." as its footer. On my phone it stacks right under the trust footnote, so the offer, the syllabus, and the privacy line all fit in my first two thumb-scrolls.
  - There is a mobile menu now, and it's in the page's own language: a three-ruled-line hamburger in a hairline box, opening a panel where each link starts with a terracotta em-dash. "Founders" is one tap away instead of a scroll-hunt. Escape closes it and returns focus to the button — someone thought about this.
  - The entrance was actually tightened, not just defended: headline lines land by ~0.8s, the CTAs animate in at .38s, and the 11-ellipse acacia ink-in was moved out of the hero entirely — it now draws itself in the Founders section where "two trees" means something. Choreography demoted to where it earns its keep.
  - The Wednesday 7:12 am card is re-dressed as a journal page — roman-numeral slips (i.–vii.) settling onto ruled lines with terracotta ticks, "handled." in small italic — and on mobile it's given `order:-1` so the payoff image appears *before* the three pains. That's the right order for a tired reader: show me the relief, then name the wound.
  - The trust footnote with the terracotta asterisk survived verbatim, and the demoted safety copy reuses the same asterisk register as a quiet italic aside under How-it-works — the demotion reads as consistency, not omission.
- Dislikes:
  - Still nothing for the hour I actually show up. Cream #F6F1E7 at full brightness in a dark bedroom was my round-2 complaint and it's untouched — no dark scheme, no `prefers-color-scheme` acknowledgment anywhere in the round.
  - The Wednesday card is a fixed 25.7rem box with absolutely-positioned slips and `overflow:hidden` — the scatter offsets run to ±8.5rem, so on a 390px screen most of the "scattered" half of the story happens clipped outside the card. I get the settle without the mess it settled from. Rigid, too: if any slip ever wraps, the layout has no give.
  - The mobile curriculum is better (the terracotta dash now draws in on scroll per cell, and the single-column rows get a proper numeral column) — but the full-width dash sweep and the checkmark that appears after each title are still hover-only. The liveliest state of the most important section remains desktop property.
  - At ≤480px the nav's "Book an intro call" compresses to .74rem in a .5rem-padded button — it survives, which I asked for, but it's squinting distance from comfortable.
- Round-2 objections: **Missing mobile menu — fixed, well.** **Long entrance choreography — fixed** (acacia relocated, CTA under a second). **Flat mobile curriculum — partially fixed** (scroll-drawn dashes, real numeral column; hover life still desktop-only). **Bright page at 11pm — ignored.** Safety demotion: costs me the double-ruled bookplate I stopped and read in round 2, but the promise now touches me three times in quiet type (trust footnote, syllabus footer, aside) — net, acceptable.
- Verdict: The page that wrote to me in round 2 now also answers me before I ask — I'd read it once and start the email.

## Variant B — Indigo Oath

- Scores: First impression 8 · Trust 9 · Clarity 10 · Resonance 7 · Craft 9 · Action 8 · **Total 51/60**
- Likes:
  - The clarity machine got even better: the hero syllabus card's rows are now real anchor links (001 → `#s-001`, etc.) into the timeline, the card wears a brass "000 Index" tab, and every section rule carries a matching clipped brass tab (01 The problem … 06 Next step). The whole page is one bound, indexed document — I always know where I am, and the thing I'd buy is clickable from the first screen.
  - My single biggest round-2 dislike — un-lit session cards at 44% opacity reading like a paywall — is fixed by name: the CSS comment says "the text is never dimmed," and it's true. The rail and dots still light with my scroll (still the best phone moment of any round), the numerals warm from slate to brass, and the copy stays fully readable the entire time.
  - The founders were humanized: brass-tinted discs instead of trustee navy, italic serif initials, roles under the names ("Emergency medicine" / "Internal medicine"), and — the nicest detail in the whole variant — a single brass line drawn *under both portraits*, literally "one root." A structural pun that does emotional work.
  - The Wednesday ledger fits the register perfectly: dotted leader lines between task and brass tick, like a registrar's day-book, no pills, no app chrome, "handled." in italic at the ledger's foot. And on the phone it appears before the three pains.
  - The nav CTA still survives down to 430px (12.5px but tappable), and the final CTA now has the clickable email printed under the button — the two things my thumb needs, both present.
- Dislikes:
  - The register is still the register. Brass small-caps everywhere, "Index," "The method," a footer set in oath-navy — it's less lectureship than round 2 (the italic marginalia helps), but this is still a page where I'd instinctively sit up straight, and I came here to slouch and confess.
  - The section tabs — the page's entire wayfinding system — are 10.5px uppercase at .16em tracking. On my dimmed phone they're decorative dashes of brass; I read the headings, not the tabs, so the signature works harder on desktop than where I live.
  - The Wednesday rows are `opacity:0` until an IntersectionObserver at 30% visibility fires, and unlike the general reveals there's no scroll catch-up rescue for that figure — a fast thumb-flick past it catches a blank white card mid-thought.
  - The demotion costs this variant the most: round 2's full-bleed indigo band — the "church-quiet" ceremonial home of "Judgment-free by design," the treatment I called the most ceremonial in the round — is gone, and the sentence now lives in a 14.5px brass-bordered aside. The syllabus-card footer keeps "no patient data, ever" where I first look, so trust holds, but the one moment this formal page bowed its head is deleted.
- Round-2 objections: **Dimmed un-lit cards — fixed, explicitly and completely.** **Trustee-navy founder discs — fixed** (brass, roles, shared root line). **Whispered trust line — improved** (serif italic, 14px, above a rule; still quiet). **Formal register that earns trust but not confession — softened, not solved.**
- Verdict: The one I'd still forward to my chair — but Variant A is the one I'd read at 11pm without fixing my collar first.

## Variant C — Paper & Indigo

- Scores: First impression 9 · Trust 9 · Clarity 9 · Resonance 8 · Craft 9 · Action 6 · **Total 50/60**
- Likes:
  - The synthesis palette works on first sight: Field Notes' warm paper (#F8F4EA) and Newsreader serif carrying Indigo Oath's structure — indigo headings, white "document" cards with indigo top-rules, terracotta as the single accent, closed by a full indigo footer spine. It's the physician's-office version of both parents.
  - The craft is auditable — literally: the stylesheet opens with a WCAG contrast audit in comments, and it's enforced (terracotta #C05B2E reserved for large text and marks at 4.0:1; a computed darker `--terra-ink` #A8481F used for every small terracotta string, including "handled."). Nobody else in three rounds showed their work like this.
  - The signature moment is the best new idea of round 3: the syllabus card *prints itself* — sheet lands, header sets, then each course line is typeset in order, ending with the privacy footer at 1.5s. The artifact I most need to read is the thing the page performs.
  - The timeline dimming argument I made in round 2 got a disciplined compromise: un-lit rows floor at opacity .82 (the comment says "never drops below 75% legibility") with numerals in muted indigo — readable at a skim, still alive on scroll.
  - Reduced-motion handling is the most complete of the three: an early JS return plus a global animation-kill block, with every final state (sorted Wednesday, filled rail, printed syllabus) as the CSS default.
- Dislikes:
  - The one unforgivable phone decision of the round: at ≤860px, `.nav .btn{display:none}` — the "Book an intro call" button is *removed from the nav* and buried as the last item inside the hamburger menu. In round 2 I praised both parents for keeping the action visible on the smallest screens; C inherits neither. At 11pm the single thing I might do now takes two taps and a menu I have to notice.
  - The entrance is the slowest of the three: hero lines land through ~1.2s and the syllabus print runs to 1.5s — charming once, but Variant A just proved the same warmth fits under a second. The round-2 "a lot of choreography before I can read" objection to 01 survives here in synthesis form.
  - On the mobile scroll the Wednesday card comes *after* the three pains (DOM order, no reorder), and its rows sit at `opacity:0` until a 35% IntersectionObserver with no catch-up rescue — the same blank-card-on-a-fast-flick trap as B, plus the relief arrives later than in A and B.
  - The .82 dimming compromise is disciplined, but it's still the withholding gesture: numerals I haven't "earned" sit gray until my scroll blesses them. A softened version of the exact thing I dinged in round 2.
- Round-2 objections: **02's dimming — compromised, not eliminated** (.82 floor, honest but present). **01's long entrance — partially carried over** (still 1.5s of print choreography). **01's missing mobile menu — fixed** (panel even includes the Book link). **Mobile CTA visibility — regressed**, the only variant to hide the nav button on phones. Safety demotion: the terracotta-bordered "Private by design" aside plus the printed syllabus footer keep it findable; no real cost here beyond what all three share.
- Verdict: The most beautiful marriage of the two parents — and the only one that made my thumb open a menu to find the button, which at 11pm is where the wedding ends.

## Ranking

1. **A — Field Notes** (52/60): kept the register that made me feel safe, adopted B's syllabus card, and fixed my menu and entrance objections — the complete 11pm phone page.
2. **B — Indigo Oath** (51/60): the clearest, best-indexed page of the round with my round-2 dislikes fixed by name; still slightly too formal for the confession I came to make.
3. **C — Paper & Indigo** (50/60): the finest craft and palette synthesis of the three, undone on my scorecard by hiding the one action behind a hamburger on the one device I use.
